Graphic novels and final cut express! Yay!

While bumming around in the basement, studying Chinese from a pretty sweet book of short stories I ordered off Amazon the other day, my mom suggested we go to the mac store and get me an early Christmas present =) Only a fool would turn down an offer like that ^_^ Now I’ve got myself an updated iLife + operating system and, on top of it all,  I got gifted a copy of FINAL CUT EXPRESS! I clearly installed everything posthaste and now I’m biting at the bits to shoot something and begin playing around with it! *does a happy dance*

In the meantime, I cleaned my desktop, downloads, and documents folder in a case of OCD. Sometimes I worry that as I grow older I’m displaying more and more neurotic tendencies. Like, it really upsets me if things aren’t organized properly/aren’t in their proper spot. Either everything has to be organized completely, utterly, irrefutably perfectly, or I just have to be completely apathetic towards it, because if I try to organize it a bit, but don’t do a thorough job of it, it becomes soooooo upsetting to me. Like, doing the laundry, I either sort the clothes into ridiculously small subgroups or I just bunch them together and do them all at once. There’s no middle ground. Once I start organizing, anything less than perfectly sorted really perturbs me.

Aside from joyful giftings and studying Chinese, I’ve just been reading a lot of comics lately. I just finished the two Persepolis books by Marjane Satrapi and I found them absolutely engrossing. I just adored the way she told/illustrated her tale of growing up in Iran during and after the Islamic revolution there. Some of the best comics are totally autobiographical in nature.

My brother also lent me a collection of the Japanese comic strip Sazae-san by Machiko Hasegawa. It’s a really cute comic from back during the post-war era in Japan, when everything was rationed and people lived in quaint neighborhoods. It was a super-fun read, but sometimes I felt a little dense because it would take me so long to get the joke. Then again, it’s not only from a different culture, it’s also a completely different time period, so I guess it makes sense to have misunderstandings get in the way of a laugh.
